The Heritage Brasserie, Bar and Boardroom, Perth

No longer content being considered Australia’s epicurean backwater, Perth has been ratcheting up its fine dining scene. The latest gourmet addition is The Heritage Brasserie, Bar & Boardroom, a multi-faceted venue encompassing a café, restaurant, late night bar, takeaway provedore and private dining room.

Like its neighbour The Trustee Bar and Bistro, the Heritage Brasserie is a heritage building-turned-fine dining establishment in Perth’s new City Square, but on an even larger scale (and budget, by the looks of things).

Paul and Lynn Wolkowinski, owners of Halo Restaurant, have fashioned the renovation of the three-storey Royal Insurance Building after the elegant cafés of Europe. Dramatic high ceilings, six-figure handmade pewter bartops from Paris and harlequin-patterned marble floors give the space a grand ballroom feel. The historical façade, however, has been left untouched.

Anyone who has eaten at Halo can attest for the Wolkowinskis’ exacting standards of quality in food and service. Classic European flavours dominate the Heritage’s a la carte menu, which is available from lunch through till 11pm. An open seafood display presents the fresh produce used in the Heritage’s signature platter Fruits of The Sea, but from the bustling kitchen also come steaks, soufflés, pasta and salads.

Nestled in the basement of the building is the 20′s style speakeasy bar Bobèche: a dark and intimate den serving old world cocktails, tap beer, fine wine and finger food.
